Nortland 6- Brookhaven 0
This defensive struggle was ended in overtime where a facemask call against the Bearcats set up the
Vikings with a first and goal opportunity. The Vikings were stuffed on first down bringing up 2nd and
goal. On second down the Vikings gave the ball to their senior running back Keith Bosley, who took
the carry seven yards through a Bearcat defender and into the end zone.
Beechcroft 33 – Whetstone 0
The Cougars roll again, led by Darrian Cordell’s and Marvin Stewart’s 2 touchdowns each. Sterwart’s
touchdowns came on a one yard run and a 14 yard pass to West Virginia bound Julian Miller. Ja’Heel
Transou added a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the Cougars who are now tied for second place in
the North Division with Brookhaven. If the Cougars win out, they will clinch at least a share of the City
League North crown. Cordell, who is one of the rushing leaders in the city, racked up 122 rushing
yards on 15 carries to go with his two touchdowns.
Eastmoor 54 – West 22
Eastmoor ended a two game skid by pummeling the visiting West Cowboys on homecoming weekend.
The Warriors were led by their junior standout Isaiah Pead who had another impressive performance.
Pead finished the evening with 228 rushing yards on 23 carries and 5 touchdowns. Eastmoor fullback
Justin Booker turned in another solid performance scoring two touchdowns; one rushing and one
receiving a Terrance Drakeford pass. The Eastmoor “D” got into the scoring when sophomore Victor
Rodriguez picked up a fumble and returned it 20 yards to the house. The Cowboys were led by
quarterback Raphael Hughley who finished with 231 yards on 14-45 passing and 3 touchdowns.
Marion Franklin 33 – Independence 0
The Luther Nicholas train was not exactly stopped as he went for 169 yards, but they did slow him down
and keep him out of the end zone. The first score of the game was a defensive score. The Red Devil’s
Chris Johnson picked up a Nicholas fumble and returned it 45 yards to pay dirt. The story of the game
was not the running game of Independence who has the league’s #1 rusher, but the running game of
Marion Franklin. The Red Devil’s running game accounted for all four offensive touchdowns. Josh
Anderson’s 133 yard 3 touchdown performance led the way for the Red Devils while quarterback
Jeremy Hill ran one in from the one yard line. With a win next week, Marion Franklin clinches at least a
share of their third straight City League South title.
Mifflin 22 – East 17
Mifflin won their third game in a row over an East team that led 11-0 after the first quarter. The 11
points came on a field goal from a Scott Craft 21 yard field goal, and Darrell Solis 54 yard touchdown
reception on a Sherman Moorer-Saunders pass. The Punchers went on to score twice behind
touchdown runs by Chris Brown and Cornell Jones to take a 14-11 lead at the half. Chris Brown also
threw a touchdown pass to Lamarr Waller for 27 yards and after a successful two point conversion, the
Punchers led 22-11. East would score one more time on a Sherman Moorer- Saunders two yard
touchdown run, but it was not enough; Mifflin would win 22-17. Cormell Jones went for 206 yards on 20
carries.
Africentric 35 – Briggs 8
The Nubians are back at .500 with a record of 4-4 (2-3). The evening started off bumpy for Africentric
as Ryan Smoot was tackled in the end zone for a safety. After trailing 0-2 the Nubians ran off 35
unanswered points. The scoring came on four rushing touchdowns, two by Bernie Agnew and one
each by sophomore Breaker Heller and junior Ryan Smoot. senior Nate Lewis would recover a fumble
in the end zone for the Nubians in the fourth quarter. That touchdown was answered by Brigg’s
Desmond Page, making the final score 35-8 in favor of Africentric. Bernie Agnew would finish with 168
yards rushing on only 12 carries.
Centennial 31 – Linden 20
The Stars get their first win of the season in an exciting game at Linden on Friday night. Linden
jumped out to a 14-0 lead behind the strong arm of Casey Hood. Hood completed two touchdown
passes in the first quarter, one to Andre Hill for 17 yards and the other to Derrick Chattman for 34
yards. On the following kick off Tyrell Richardson took it back for 70 yards, his third return touchdown
of the season. Centennial figured out how to stop the Panther passing attack when Oran Henderson
took an interception in for a score. The Stars added a field goal and two rushing touchdowns making
the score 31-14. Linden would score a touchdown late to make the score 31-20 in favor of the visiting
Centennial Stars.
Walnut Ridge 7 – South 0
A battle between two of the league’s best defenses was fittingly settled by one score and that one
score was made by the defense. In the second quarter the Scot’s Lamar Ross returned a fumble 55
yards for the games, lone touchdown. Matt Marr had a solid night for the Scots, racking up 119
rushing yards.
