East 14 - Northland 0
The East Tigers 4-5, (3-3) perhaps pulled off the upset of the
season, beating the then North Division leader Northland Vikings 5-4,
(5-1) 14-0. The Tigers scored on two short touchdown runs by
seniors Johnathan Willoughby and Sherman Moorer-Saunders. All is
not lost for the Vikings, a win next week over Beechcroft gives them a
share of the City League North crown.
South 38 - Independence 8
South sends their seniors out in style beating the Visiting Sixers of
Independence 38-8. The win assures South a winning season but
the Bulldogs have goals of making the playoffs which with a win next
week over Marion Franklin they should be in. The Bulldog "D"
limited the City's leading rusher Luther Nicholas to 33 first half
rushing yards and would finish the night with just 115 for the game.
Stefan Gregory of South finished with two touchdowns and 112 yards
giving him eleven on the season. Luther Nicholas scored a rushing
touchdown late to give him fourteen on the season.
Marion-Franklin 21 - Walnut Ridge 14
Tywon Walton of Walnut Ridge scored on the first drive on a 59 yard
pass from Deon Sink. John Goins of Marion-Franklin bloked a punt
and drove on the ball in the end zone to make the score 7-6 Walnut
Ridge. Jemery Hill of Marion-Franklin threw a interception to Douglas
to end the half. Maurice Cleveland of Walnut Ridge picked off a
Jeremy Hill pass. Josh Anderson scored on a 9 yard run to make the
score 14-7 in the 2nd half. Tywon Walton of Walnut Ridge caught a
22 yard pass from Deon Sink to make the score 14-14. Jemery Hill
had a clucth 4th down towndown pass for 15 yards with very little time
to go. Josh Anderson of Marion-Franklin picked off Sinks pass to
end the game 21-14.
Eastmoor 57 - Briggs 7
The Warriors of Eastmoor exploded for 36 first half points against the
winless Briggs Bruins. The Warriors are in place to make the D IV
playoffs if they win out while the Bruins have one more week to get
that coveted first win of the season.
Brookhaven 40 - Whetstone 6
Brookhaven scored the first 40 points of the game to prove they are
ready to bounce back from last weeks tough loss. Cyrus Norwood
threw two touchdown passes and Andrew Herrell had 169 yards with
two scores on the ground to lead Brookhaven, while Herb Cornell
accounted for the only Whetstone score. After Northland's loss to
East the Bearcats can still win a share of the City League North with
a win in week ten over rival Mifflin.
Mifflin 14 - Centennial 6
The Punchers make it four in a row in City League North play with a
win over Centennial. After a scoreless first half Lamarr Waller
punched in a run from two yards out giving Mifflin the 6-
0. After Centennial scored in the fourth quarter on a Clayton Clever
to T.J. Burbridge 22 yard pass to tie the game 6-6, The Puncher's
Cornell Jones scored on a nine yard touchdown run. Lamarr Waller
added a two point conversion giving the Punchers the 14-6 win.
Cornell Jone Finished with 159 on the ground.
Beechcroft 32 - Linden 6
The Cougars keep their playoff hopes alive and with a win in week
ten and a little help the Cougars will make their City League leading
13 play off appearance. Ja'Heel Transou had a big night for the
Cougars scoring two rushing touchdowns.
West 16 - Africentric 0
Brandon White continues his excellent play at receiver by hauling in
a 20 yard TD pass from Eric Stewart. The West "D" outscored both
Africentric and their own offense accounting for a safety and
