Beechcroft 43 -  Centennial 6
If anyone wondered how Beechcroft would respond to a tough loss to Brookhaven,
43 points is your answer.  Marvin Stewart turned in another solid performance,
throwing for two touchdowns; one to Julian Miller and the other to Darren Hughes.
Beechcroft's stable of running backs got into the action.  Markus Burton, BJ
Watkins, Darrian Cordell, Ja'Heel Transou, and Le'Marr Mickens all had rushing
touchdowns.  The Stars would not be shut out as they scored on an 11 yard
touchdown pass in the closing moments of the game.

Independence 33 -  Eastmoor Academy 28
Two of the city's best running backs in the class of '08 would square off in a city
south battle.  Independence's Luther Nicholas would get the best of this battle,
going for 46 carries for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Isaiah Pead of Eastmoor did
what he could on limited touches gaining 235 yards on 16 carries and 3
touchdowns.  Calvin Tyler had 2 interceptions to bring his season total to 7
interceptions.  Independence's offense is really turning it on, scoring 33 points,
bringing their league leading total to 196 points.

Brookhaven 27 - East  12
The mighty Bearcats improve to (5-2) (4-0) by defeating East on the road.  Senior
quarterback Cyrus Norwood would pass for two touchdowns to Kameron Taylor and
run one in himself from 5 yards out.  Senior Sherman Moorer-Saunders would try to
rally the troops by throwing two touchdown passes of his own; one to Stanley
Dickerson for 70 yards and the other to Darrell Solis for 15 yards.  Sophomore
Andrew Herrell added a 12 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give
Brookhaven the 27-12 win.

Marion-Franklin 44 - Briggs 6
If you were expecting Marion-Franklin to let down after a huge win over Eastmoor,
you're still waiting.  Marion-Franklin would score early and often against a young
Briggs team.  The Devils were led by Josh Anderson's two rushing touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Jeremy Hill threw three touchdowns, bringing his season total to
13 to lead the league.  Tim Neloms Jr., David Mason and Greg Bowman were on the
receiving ends of the touchdowns.    Briggs would get on the board with a Raymond
Bridgeman two yard touchdown run in the third quarter.  Freshman Verlon Reed
would get into the action for the Red Devils and throw a touchdown pass to Tim
Neloms Jr. to make the score 44-6.

Northland  49 - Linden 0
After starting 0-3, the Vikings have caught fire winning three in a row.   Someone
has added gasoline to that fire as the Viking have scored 55 points last week and
49 Friday night versus Linden to improve their record to (4-3), (4-0).  Once again,
Northland received scoring from several different sources including 8 points from
the defense.  One important key to Northland's turnaround has been a healthy
Marcus Rose who scored on a 45 yard interception return for a touchdown.  David
Turner and Chris Tucker led the offense combining for five touchdowns.  One of
Turner's touchdowns came on a 7 yard pass from quarterback Ben Bennett.

South  19 - West 7
The Bulldogs just keep winning.  South received another big performance from
senior running back Stefan Gregory.  Gregory would finish the evening with 213
yards and three touchdowns. South Improved their record to (5-2), (3-1).

Mifflin 20 - Whetstone 0
If you love the essence of high school football, then Whetstone HS was the place to
be on Friday night.  The first half was a battle of the defenses.  Mifflin had an
opportunity to score with four minutes to go in the second half, but the Whetstone
defense would respond forcing a fumble on the goal line and returning it to the 27
yard line.  They would go to the half with the score tied 0-0, but it would seem the
Punchers figured some ways to put points on the board scoring 20 unanswered
points in the second half.  The first touchdown came on a Chris Harris to Terrence
Pearson touchdown pass.  Cornell Jones and Lamarr Waller would add touchdown
runs in the fourth quarter as Mifflin cruised to a 20-0 win.

Africentric 16 -  Walnut Ridge 13
Africentric would go on to get their first City League win in school history.  But Ridge
struck first on a Matt Marr 7 yard touchdown run.  The extra point was good to make
the score 7-0.  Africentric would quickly bounce back when Sophomore Breaker
Heller punched one in from 11 yards out.  Bernie Agnew would add the two point
conversion to put the Nubians ahead 8-7.  Agnew also added a 4 yard touchdown
run of his own and a two point conversion to give the Nubians a 16-7 lead.  That is
all they would need to secure the victory.  Walnut Ridge would add 6 more points
with the Sink to Walton connection for a 60 yard touchdown.

Chandler Tennant was also at the game lets get his take:

Walnut Ridge couldn't get it going in the second half at all.  Africentric mostly ran
out the clock in the second half.  They ran and ran and ran the ball.  Africentric was
study gaining yards making first downs while Walnut Ridge couldn't get a yard.  It
seemed like Dion Sink of Walnut Ridge was the only one that wanted to play on that
team.  But players of Africentric like Bernie Agnew, Don Youngblood and Breaker
Heller were having a great second half, if they threw they might of had a better
change with Agnew at Reciever.  The final score was 16-13 Africentric.
