Brookhaven 28 - Beechcroft 20
Freshman B.J. Watkins ran back the opening kickoff 85 yards
for his 6th touchdown of the season to give the visiting
Cougars a 6-0 lead. Brookhaven would bounce back and
take the lead 14-6 after two Aquante Braswell touchdown
passes to Dominique Johnson and Cameron Brown. The
Cougars would tie it at 14-14 before half when Marvin Stewart
scored on a 1 yard run then connected with B.J. Watkins for
the two point conversion. Both teams would add another
touchdown but Beechcroft missed the conversion attempt
leaving Brookhaven up by 1 going into the fourth quarter.
Brookhaven's Andrew Herrell would punch it in from four yards
out and the extra point was good to close the deal at 28-20.
Marion Franklin 31 - Eastmoor 18
Chandler Tennant gives the highlights of the game:
D.Mason of Marion-Franklin scored on a one yard run in the first quarter.
Justin Booker of Eastmoor had a fumble recovery. Josh Anderson had
an interception and return it for 33 yards before he was tackled. M.Ervin
recovered a fumble on the one yard line as Marion-Franklin muffed a
punt return. Drakeford of Eastmoor ran in a two yard touchdown but
failed the two point as Marion-Franklin still had the lead 7-6 in the
second quarter. Josh Anderson scored on a 17 yard run. C. Fraley of
Marion Franklin scored a on a 10 yard pass from J.Hill with 10 seconds
left in the first half to make the score 19-6. In the start of the second half
Josh Anderson of Marion Franklin pick off a pass from Drakeford and
ran it back for a touchdown for 40 yards as they took the lead 25-6.
Aaron Mackey of Eastmoor of scored on a 17 yard pass from Drakeford
as they made the score 25-12. Justin Booker scored a 8 yard
touchdown still in the 3rd to make it 18-25. Pead, Drakeford, and
Mackey of Eastmoor were the key int the 3rd. Marion-Franklin was very
quite in the 3rd but made noise in the 4th. Eastmoor muffed two in a
role punt returns as Marion-Franklin recovered. Josh Anderson scored a
5 yard touchdown to win the game. Tim neloms jr of Marion-Franklin
intercepted Drakefords pass on Eastmoors last drive.
Mifflin 22 - Linden 12
Mifflin captured their first win of the season after trailing 12-6
at the half. The Punchers went on to score 16 points in the
third to secure the victory. Mifflin's Lamarr Waller scored two
touchdowns and two two point conversions to account for 16
of the Puncher's 22 points. Linden was led by Doug Rippy
who scored both of the Panther's touchdowns.
Independence 56 - West 20
Up 36-0 at the half the Sixers coasted to a 56-20 win. They
were again led by Luther Nicholas who accounted for 302
yards and 4 touchdowns on 31 carries. Nicholas now has
1230 rushing yards on the season. Ryan Jones returned a
fumble for a touchdown for his third defensive touchdown of
the season. Calvin Tyler picked off another pass bringing his
season total to 5.
East 34 - Centennial 14
East got a boost from the running game as Seniors Willie
Poindexter had three (2,5, 39) rushing touchdowns and
Jonathan Willoughby added one for 20 yards. East would
also get a score through the air on a Morrer-Saunders to
Darrell Solis 35 yard pass. Centennial scored 14 unanswered
points to end the game, six of them by the league's second
leader in points Tyrell Richardson.
Walnut Ridge 37 - Briggs 0
The Walnut Ridge defense held Briggs to zero points while
Dion Sink torched the Bruin secondary for three touchdowns
through the air. The Scots have little time to celebrate as they
travel to Africentric next Friday. Both teams have 2-4 records
and the winner of the game will still be able to finish with a
winning record if they win out.
South 32 - Africentric 24
The Bulldogs jumped to a 24-0 lead at the half. The Nubians
put up 16 in the third to trail only 24-16 entering the fourth
quarter. The third quarter was a stalemate as both teams
added a touchdown and a two point conversion, bringing their
totals to 32-24 in favor of South. The Bulldogs were led again
by Stefan Gregory who scored on runs of 57 and 71 yards.
Arguably the best receiver in the city Bernie Agnew has made
the move to quarterback to help his team. He would throw for
three touchdowns, two of them to Joe Broomfield.
Northland 55 - Whetstone 3
Northland played a near perfect game against the Braves.
They scored on defense and special teams totaling 20 points.
The Vikings received a big game from Junior 'Dre Brown who
scored on a 10 yard run and a 71 yard reception. The
Braves' field goal came from Tanner Furno who is having an
impressive season kicking the ball.
