Africentric and Eastmoor roll to victory, Walnut Ridge lets one slip away

Beechcroft 34 - Independence 0
Independence and Beechcroft have faced each other in 17 consecutive
seasons, including Friday night's contest, and the series is 11-6 in favor of
Beechcroft. The Cougars have dominated the series of recent, winning
seven of the last ten match ups.
The Cougars dominated from the opening quarter lead by Senior
quarterback, Marvin Stewart, who hooked up with Junior Maurice Hill to
give Beechcroft an early 14-0 lead.
Stewart added another touchdown in the
second quarter to Chaz Nelson, which
gave the Cougars a halftime lead of 20-0.
If Independence expected to have a better
second half, that would come to an end
fast as Senior kick returner Darrian
Cordell took the opening kick 95 yards.
Raynard Transou of Beechcroft would
later intercept a 76er pass and take it 52
yards for the distance, giving his team a
34-0 lead. That would turn out to be the
game's final score.
Whetstone 21 - Briggs 0
The Whetsone D pitched a shutout against visiting Briggs. The Braves
were led on offense by junior Michael Haynes who rushed for 125 yards, a
rushing and a receiving TD. Herb Cornell started all scoring with a 62 yard
run in the opening quarter.
The second half saw a lot of movement up and down the field but no
score. Both teams had great pushes to the 4 yard line and both “coughed”
up the ball. So the final remained, Whetstone 21 and Briggs 0.
Eastmoor 75 - East 6
As expected the East Tigers got a heavy dose of Isaiah Pead friday night.
The Warriors stormed out to a 48-0 halftime advantage behind Pead's
running. Pead would finish the game with 238 yards and seven
touchdowns as Eastmoor cruised to a 75-6 victory.
Africentric 31 - Cedarville 9
Junior Africentric quarterback Victor Graham made his Nubian debut
Friday night and did not disappoint. Graham ran for 142 yards including
scores of (69, 59) yards. He was also dangerous with his arm throwing
for two TDs of (8, 68) yards. One of those passes was to Soloman
Wheat, who also took an interception back 68 yards for a score in the
second quarter.
The Africentric "D" was tough, only giving up one touchdown the entire
game.
Paint Valley 35 - West 28
The West Cowboys fell short in a shout out with Paint Valley.
Sophomore quarterback Eric Stewart led the way for the Cowboys with
two passing TDs (5,30) yards and one on the ground for 5 yards.
St. Charles 20 - Walnut Ridge 19
The Walnut Ridge team wanted to get out to a great start in 2007, and
they were just a few plays away from doing just that. After giving up the
first score to St. Charles, Donavon Gwynn returned the ensuing kickoff
80 yards for a TD. Alvin Busbee played a solid game for his team, he
had TD runs of 5, 90 yards. Though they walk away with a loss, Walnut
Ridge looked much improved from last year's 4-6 record and will look to
make a run at the City South title.
Trotwood 25 - Marion Franklin 0
After both defenses held tough on opening drives, Trotwood struck pay
dirt on a 49 yard Dominick Britt to Roy Roundtree pass. On the following
kickoff, Trotwood went for the onside kick and the Marion Franklin front
line never reacted. Trotwood recovered and scored on the drive on
another Britt touchdown pass. The Marion Franklin defense buckled
down after giving up 19 first quarter points, holding Trotwood to just one
more TD. The Red Devil offense never got going, only gaining 21 yards
the entire game.
Hartley 51 -
Centennial 10
Centennial found
themselves in trouble
early as they could not
move the ball very far.
They spent most of the
1st quarter doing 4
downs and out. Bishop
Hartley on the other hand
seemed to move the ball
easily up the field. The
second quarter was
Columbus Academy 62 - Linden 14
In a game Linden would like to forget, they lose more than just the game.
Last year's league leader in passing, Casey Hood, is lost for 4-6 weeks
with a collarbone injury. The :anthers did not go without a fight, as Marvin
Demby hauled in two fourth quarter touchdown passes from Emanuel
Satterfield , but they were nowhere near enough to beat Columbus
Academy. Academy was led by Chris Crocket who had five TDs for the
evening.
much of the same. Centennial did have a couple good runs but was not
able to capitalize on them. With 1:48 left in the half Centennial did finally get
a push toward the goal but had to settle on a field goal. At the half it was
Centennial 3 and Bishop Hartley 21.
The final was Centennial 10 and Bishop Hartley 51.

Gahanna 65 - Mifflin 6
For the Punchers of Mifflin, there were few positives to take away from a
lopsided 65-6 loss at the hands of the Gahanna Lions. The lone bright spot
was a 75 yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. However, it was too
little, too late. Gahanna had stormed out to a 65-0 halftime lead and that is
all that they would need. Gahanna was led by Darius Reeves, who rushed
for 119 yards and three scores.
