Marion Franklin 39 - Africentric 0
After two missed scoring opportunities by the Nubians the Red Devils began
to impose their will.  The scoring started when a Victor Graham pass was
intercepted and ran back for a touchdown by Jamel Wood giving Marion
Franklin a 7-0 lead.  On the Nubians next possesion the went three and out, a
poor punt set up the next Red Devil score.  With the score at just 13-0 at the
half, the Division II Red Devils just had too much depth and talent for the
Division VI Nubians to over come.

Eastmoor 64 - South 6
People may argue that Eastmoor hasn't played any stiff competition yet, but
regardless who you play outscoring your opponents 49 to 7 is impressive.
Paced by another solid performance from Isaiah Pead Eastmoor improoves to
5-0.  This win sets up a huge showdown next week with eastside rival Walnut
Ridge, with not only bragging rights but South Division title implications on the
line.

Independence 24 - Briggs 0
After starting the season with a brutal schedule the 76ers have had a few
weeks to lick their wounds and attempt to turn around their season.  The Sixer
Defense recorded it's first shutout of the season.  The offense got a boost from
star running back Luther Nicholas, who rushed for two touchdowns in the
game.  Nicholas had been a little banged up in previous weeks.

Walnut Ridge 60 - West 26
There is a new star emerging in the city and his name is Brandon Rice, of
Walnut Ridge.  Rice's 6 touchdowns and 300 plus yards led his Scots to a
60-26 victory.  The game was 52-6 entering the fourth quarter when the Scots
began subbing in the reserves, then West went on to score 20 points in the
fourth quarter.

Brookhaven 70 - Linden 7
Rodney Stewart continues to rack up the yards for the Bearcats.  Stewart
accounted for 241 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries.  Bearcat
quarterback Aquante' Braswell threw for four touchdowns for the second time
this season.  The emergence of Braswell as a leader and passing threat gives
the Beacats a solid 1-2 punch to make a strong playoff push.

Beechcroft 43 - Mifflin 21
Led by Toure Benton and Adrian Arter the Punchers of Mifflin actually led this
game at the half, and even took an early second half lead of 21-13 after an
Arter interception return for a touchdown.  Beechcroft refused to lose under the
leadership of senior quarterback Marvin Stewart and sophomore running back
Wallace Hale.  Stewart passed and ran fur touchdowns in the second half
,while Hale rushed for two to go with his first half receiving touchdown from
Stewart.  The Cougar "D" held Mifflin to -36 rushing yards for the game.

Whetstone 39 - East 14
The Whetsone Braves are quietly putting together a impressive season in the
North Division.  The Braves improved to 3-2 behind the arm and legs of junior
quarterback Mario Dovell.  Dovell rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two
more.

Northland 63 - Centennial 7
The night must have seemed a blur to Centennial as Northland stopped
everything the Stars threw at them.

Northland emerges victorious despite numerous penalties.

The Vikings started off hot with a 50 yd running gain that was unfortunately
called back because of an illegal block in the back.  But the Vikings came back
and with 6:17 left in the first quarter Chris Tucker scored on a 5 yd run.  The 2
point conversion failed. With 51 seconds left in the first quarter Andre Brown
(#5) pulled in a 35yrd pass and scored a second TD for Northland.  A
successful point after put the Vikings up 13 - 0.

The Vikings got continued the rampage in the second quarter. At 7:43 Ben
Bennet (#7) completed a successful pass to James Jones (#9) for 20yrds and
Jones carried it the remaining 15 yrds for another TD.  The 2 point conversion
was successful to put the Vikings 21-0.

Centennial not only had a problem moving the ball down field against
Northland but just holding on to the ball was a challenge.  At 7:21 Northland
forced the Stars to fumble and then the Vikings recovered the ball.  The Vikings
were still having thier own problems.  An amazing 50 yrd run was called back
on a holding penalty.

Northland was not done yet as #1 repeated another great run of 45yds to the
three yard line and then on the next play carried it into the end zone.  Northland
successfully ran another two point conversion to make it 29-0.

Northland went back to the air and completed a 51 yard pass to Ben Bennet
(#7) to put the ball on the 5 and then the next play another pass to Bennet
completed the TD.  The point after was no good.  At the half Northland had a
strong 35-0 lead.

I asked the head coach (name?) what changes if any he would make for the
second half and if he was concerned about the numerous fouls by Northland.
"Aside from the trying to avoid all the penalties the team is executing good",
commented Coach ............., "There have been some comments about the two
QB system but it is working for us."
"I am just going to emphasis to the team to come out and play a good clean
game."
