Africentric 0 - Walnut Ridge 34
Over the past four seasons it has been Eastmoor and Marion Franklin
battling for the City League South crown. This year armed with standout
running back Isaiah Pead seemed ready to knock Marion Franklin out of the
number one spot, but Marion Franklin was not about to give up anything
without a fight.
Eastmoor struck first on an impressive drive that was capped by a 10 yard
Isaiah Pead touchdown run. Marion Franklin responded with a Jeremy Hill
touchdown pass to Tyrell Massey that went for 36 yards. The Red Devils
would later add a field goal and take the lead entering the half 9-7.
It was obvious the Marion Franklin "D" was geared to stop Pead, so it was
time for Eastmoor to go to the drawing board. Draw they did as Ma'lon
Johnson threw a screen pass to Isaiah Pead did the rest, taking it 66 yards
for the score.
The pressure was on the Red Devils and they resonded with a fourth
quarter drive that had them going for it on a fourth and one in the red zone.
As the Warrior "D" had done all night, the stepped up and made the stop.
After forcing the turnover on downs and trailing late in the fourth, many
teams would fold. Not Marion Franklin, upon forcing Eastmoor to punt from
their own end zone a miscue would lead to Tyrell Massey recovering a
fumble in the endzone for the go ahead score.
The young Warriors themselves showed they had heart as they made an
attempt to march down the field. Junior Ma'lon Johnson completed two
fourth and three passes to keep the drive alive. On a routine hand off just in
side the Marion Franklin 40 yard line the ball slipped away from the
Warriors as did their chance of beating the Red Devils.
Eastmoor 51 - Independence 8
In another close battle, Northland used a big second half to defeat
Whetstone. After trading touchdowns early Northland's 'Dre Brown
intercepted a Whetstone pass and took it the distance to give his team a
13-7 lead. The lead was short lived as the Braves would score thirteen
unanswered points on rushing touchdowns by Mario Dovell and Michael
Haynes.
Whatever halftime speech Coach Tooson gave, it worked because
Whetsone would not score in the second half. Northland tied the game in
the third when Alfred Geiger scored from 38 yards out. Chris Tucker would
also score a rushing touchdown with under a minute to go, giving Northland
a 26-19 win.
West 36 - South 8
In a game that left some wondering did either team even line up a defense,
Independence would outlast the West Cowboys. In this offensive show two
stars shined bright. Luther Nicholas of Independence rushed for 212 yards
on 17 carries and 5 TD's. Nicholas also ran an interception back 98 yards
for his team. For West sophomore quarterback Eric Stewart continued his
shredding of City League secondaries, throwing for 435 yards and 4 TD's.
Stewart added a rushing touchdown but his team still fell short.
Marion-Franklin 35 - Briggs 8
Like a freight train the Brookhaven offense continues to roll no matter who
is in their way. This includes the rival Cougars of Beechcroft. The Cougars
started out strong taking a 6-3 lead early in the game, but the rest was al
Brookhaven.
Rodney Stewart led the assault scoring on a Braswell touchdown pass,
punt return and three rushing TD's. Stewart finished the game with 150
yards rushing on 22 carries.

was tied 7-7 at the end of regulation and remained tied after one overtime.

much deserved victory.
Northland 20 - Linden 12

interception, and a reception. All of which were for 45 yards or more.
