In a rematch from last year, where Hilliard-Davidson edged out a victory 14-13 on
Brookhaven's turf, the Bearcats had a little redemption on their mind. But would
Hilliard-Davidson allow it? With emotions running high, this was expected to be a very
close game, that would be won in the trenches. Both offenses started off slow, not
moving the ball too much. But it was the Bearcat offense that made the first costly
mistake. Midway through the first quarter, backed deep into their own territory on their
own 2 yard line, a fumbled exchange between the Terrence Watkins and Demetrius
Johnson allowed Davidson to recover it in the end zone resulting in the games first TD.
Both defenses buckled down and held their own for the rest of the first half, with
Davidson missing a chip shot field goal, and the Bearcats getting a TD run by Andrew
Herrell called back on a holding penalty. Going into halftime the score was 7-0 HD.

At the start of the second half, Davidson received the ball, and drove 55 + yards to
settle for a close field goal, making the score 10-0. Both defenses really dug in, until
Davidson took a quick slant pass 40 + yards  down to the 5 yard line. On 4th and goal,
Davidson punched it in from 2 yards out, taking total control of the game, leading 17-0.
It may have been a blessing in disguise for Brookhaven, but due to stormy weather, the
game was suspended for about 45 minutes. Whatever happened to the Bearcats during
the delay, is unexplainable, but the light turned on, and the Brookhaven Bearcats we
are accustomed to, woke up. Lead by the blocking of the offensive line, and RB Drew
Herrell, they marched down the field and capping of the drive with Drew Herrell taking it
to the house from 30 yards out, with completing the P.A.T., the score was 17-7. With the
momentum shifting to Brookhaven, their defense came out the next series and stuffed
the Hilliard-Davidson Wildcats, forcing a fumble by the quarterback, which was picked
up by defensive end D.J. Greggs and scampered in from 15 yards out for another
Bearcat touchdown, bringing it to 17-14, Davidson. But it didn't stop there, followed by
another punt by Davidson, Brookhaven marched down the field and scored another TD
by Drew Herrell, leaving the score 21-17, with a little over 7 minutes left.

Being the veteran team that they are, Hilliard-Davidson sustained a drive that was over
12 plays, including a crucial 4th and 8 conversion, taking around 4 minutes off the clock
and punching it in, with a dive play up the middle. Brookhaven got the ball back with
2:07 left, but faltered on a few plays, and fumbling on 3rd down. With it being 4th and
13, Brookhaven tried one last play, but Cam Brown was sacked, ending a heroic
comeback try by the Bearcats. Brookhaven (1-1) travels to Dayton next Friday to take
on Juliene-Chaminade.
